What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a life-changing initiative by the Australian government to provide funding for people who require disability support. This allows you to continue living a life that’s fulfilling, as independently as possible. With NDIS support you can find disability-friendly accommodation, get help day to day, have access to suitable transport and physical aids, and you can also pursue an education and be employed. When you qualify, you will become an NDIS participant which means you will be able to choose from a wide range of service providers in your area who will assist you with the specific supports you require or refer you to specialists where necessary.

Will I Qualify For The NDIS?

Get To Know If You’re Eligible

The first step to getting started with the NDIS is to find out if you are eligible. Since the aim of the NDIS is to remove barriers of support for people living with disability, it is fairly simple to qualify. To be eligible, you should be between the ages of 7 and 65 and living with a permanent or significant disability that means you rely on others for support. You should also be living in Australia as an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected Special Category Visa holder to be eligible for NDIS funding.

NDIS Frequently Asked Questions

Take a look at our FAQs below to find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. We hope you will find this helpful in clarifying certain aspects of the NDIS, but do feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Our Care Advisors would love to assist.

  • What can I use my NDIS funding for?

The NDIS will provide funds for any supports related to your disability. Depending on your individual needs and your eligibility, you can use your funding for a wide range of supports such as household tasks, personal care, behaviour therapy, development of life skills, transport, plan management and more.

  • How do I find a good provider?

Finding a provider that truly understands your needs is key to living a happy, fulfilled life with NDIS support. Ask the NDIS, your Local Area Coordinator or your local council to put you in touch with providers in your area and find out if they meet your individual requirements and provide the supports that you need.

  • How will a support coordinator help me?

The role of a support coordinator is to help you understand your plan and to navigate the NDIS. They will advise you on the best supports for your needs and will help you get the most out of your funding by negotiating with providers on your behalf. A support coordinator will also make sure that you have a service agreement in place to protect your rights. This is a valuable support, especially if you have a high intensity disability or an intellectual disability that makes it difficult for you to understand your plan without assistance. Our support coordinators are available anytime to chat to you about your needs on 0478 692 288.

  • How can I manage my plan?

Managing your plan can be difficult and a plan manager will help you optimise your plan and keep track of your funding as well as paying bills on time and other admin duties. Speak to us about plan management on 0478 692 288 and we can chat about whether Good Life is a good fit for your needs.

  • Can I change my plan?

Your plan will automatically be reviewed after 12 months by the NDIS and you can request a change in supports if your circumstances have changed. If your needs change before the 12-month review, you may call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or speak to your support coordinator about a reassessment.

  • Will my funding cover a range of therapies?

The NDIS does include different therapies in its range of funded disability supports under the category of capacity building. If you qualify, you may use your NDIS funding for speech therapy, behavioural therapy and other therapies to help you live life to the full. Good Life Services can assist with speech therapy and behavioural therapy. Find out more here.
